Treatment Exposure

Treatment exposure is the amount, timing, duration, or intensity of a therapy that a person or experimental unit receives, making it a central variable in statistical analysis of interventions and outcomes. Researchers define exposure categories or continuous measures, then compare outcomes across levels while accounting for treatment assignment, follow-up time, missing data, and potential confounding. Statistical models can estimate dose-response relationships, treatment effects, and variation in response, helping distinguish whether differences in outcomes are associated with the therapy itself or with characteristics related to receiving it. Careful measurement of treatment exposure supports clinical trials, observational studies, safety assessments, and evidence-based decisions about treatment effectiveness.

Psoriasis is a chronic, immune-mediated inflammatory skin disease. The Goeckerman regimen, formulated for the treatment of psoriasis, consists of exposure to ultraviolet B (UVB) light and application of crude coal tar (CCT). The following protocol is for the administration of Goeckerman therapy for the treatment of moderate-to-severe psoriasis.

Developing a Salivary Antibody Multiplex Immunoassay to Measure Human Exposure to Environmental Pathogens

In the current climate of scarce resources, new technologies are emerging that allow researchers to conduct studies cheaper, faster and with more precision. Here we describe the development of a bead-based salivary antibody multiplex immunoassay to measure human exposure to multiple environmental pathogens simultaneously.

A whole-body nanoparticle aerosol inhalation exposure facility was constructed for nano-sized titanium dioxide (TiO2) inhalation toxicology studies. This system provides nano-TiO2 aerosol test atmospheres that have: 1) a steady mass concentration; 2) a homogenous composition free of contaminants; and 3) a stable particle size distribution during aerosol generation.
