Core-shell Cylinder Model

The Core-shell Cylinder Model is a mathematical representation of a cylindrical structure with a distinct inner core surrounded by an outer shell, allowing chemists to relate composition and geometry to measurable behavior. It works by treating the core, shell, and their interface as regions with potentially different material properties, then applying relevant equations and boundary conditions across the radial structure. This framework can describe concentration, diffusion, electric potential, or other radial profiles in layered particles and cylindrical materials. It supports interpretation of transport and reactivity, comparison of core-shell designs, and prediction of how shell thickness or composition affects chemical performance.

Classical forelimb asymmetry analysis of the cylinder test is routinely used to assess behavioural deficits in rats following brain injury or stroke; however, it fails to detect consistent deficits in mice. This study demonstrates that quantifying paw-dragging behaviour is a more sensitive analysis of brain injury in mice.

Cylinders in Three-Dimensional Space

2026

A cylindrical surface is generated when a two-dimensional profile curve is translated along a straight line in three-dimensional space. The translated copies of the curve form a surface composed of parallel rulings, each oriented in the same fixed direction. This construction allows many three-dimensional forms to be described using relatively simple planar equations. In Cartesian coordinates, a cylindrical surface is often recognized by an equation that omits one of the three variables. For...

The Nucleosome Core Particle

2020

Nucleosomes are the DNA-histone complex, where the DNA strand is wound around the histone core. The histone core is an octamer containing two copies of H2A, H2B, H3, and H4 histone proteins. The paradox Nucleosomes, paradoxically, perform two opposite functions simultaneously. On the one hand, their main responsibility is to protect the delicate DNA strands from physical damage and help achieve a higher compaction ratio. While on the other hand, they must allow polymerase enzymes to access DNA...
