Patrick Test

The Patrick test, also called the FABER test, is a clinical examination maneuver used to assess pain and restricted movement involving the hip and sacroiliac regions. With the patient supine, the examiner places the tested hip in flexion, abduction, and external rotation, positions the ankle over the opposite knee, and applies gentle downward pressure to evaluate range of motion and reproduce symptoms. Pain or limited movement may indicate hip joint or sacroiliac dysfunction, although findings require correlation with the patient’s history and other examination results. The test supports the clinical assessment of conditions such as intra-articular hip pathology and posterior pelvic pain.

Here we describe a method for the isolation of hepatic stellate cells from mouse liver. For stellate cell purification, mouse livers are digested in situ and in vitro by pronase-collagenase treatment prior to density gradient centrifugation. This technique yields highly pure hepatic stellate cells.

Nuclear Transmutation

2020

Nuclear transmutation is the conversion of one nuclide into another. It can occur by the radioactive decay of a nucleus, or the reaction of a nucleus with another particle. The first manmade nucleus was produced in Ernest Rutherford’s laboratory in 1919 by a transmutation reaction, the bombardment of one type of nuclei with other nuclei or with neutrons. Rutherford bombarded nitrogen-14 atoms with high-speed α particles from a natural radioactive isotope of radium and observed protons being...

Here, we present a protocol to use a curvelet transform-based, open-source MATLAB software tool for quantifying fibrillar collagen organization in the extracellular matrix of both normal and diseased tissues. This tool can be applied to images with collagen fibers or other types of line-like structures.
