Particle Suspension

Particle suspension is a heterogeneous mixture in which solid particles remain dispersed throughout a liquid rather than dissolving, making it useful for controlled transport, separation, and analysis. Particle stability depends on factors such as particle size, density, viscosity, Brownian motion, and surface interactions, including electrostatic or steric repulsion that can limit aggregation and settling. In genetics, particle suspensions support laboratory workflows involving cells, beads, or nucleic-acid-associated materials, where uniform dispersion improves sampling, reaction consistency, and separation. Their behavior affects the reliability of assays used for genetic analysis, molecular delivery, and other biotechnology applications.

Subatomic Particles

Dalton was only partially correct about the particles that make up matter. All matter is composed of atoms, and atoms are composed of three smaller subatomic particles: protons, neutrons, and electrons. These three particles account for the mass and the charge of an atom. The Discovery of the Electron The first clue about the subatomic structure came at the end of the 19th century when J.J. Thomson discovered the electron using a cathode ray tube. This apparatus consisted of a sealed glass...
