Apical Prolapse

Apical prolapse is a form of pelvic organ prolapse in which the top of the vagina, known as the vaginal apex, descends from its normal position; when the uterus remains, the uterus and cervix may descend instead. It matters because it can cause pressure, bulging, discomfort, or urinary and bowel symptoms. Pelvic floor muscle, fascial, and ligamentous support normally suspends the apex; weakening or injury allows gravity and increased intra-abdominal pressure to drive downward displacement. Clinicians assess prolapse through pelvic examination and symptom evaluation, then tailor management with observation, pelvic floor rehabilitation, pessaries, or reconstructive surgery. Accurate classification guides treatment selection and helps evaluate outcomes in urogynecology and pelvic health research.

Assessment of apical pulse

2025

Assessing the Apical Pulse Assessing the apical pulse is a critical nursing procedure, particularly indicated for: • Children younger than two years. • Cardiac patients. • Patients before administering specific medications (e.g., cardiac glycosides like digoxin). Location: The apical pulse is auscultated at the left midclavicular line. It is located at the 5th intercostal space, where the heart's apex is closest to the chest wall. Preparation: Gather Equipment: Ensure you have a...

Mitral Valve Prolapse I: Introduction

IntroductionThe mitral valve, one of the heart's four valves, regulates blood flow. These valves have flaps that open and close to direct blood properly through the heart and body. During each heartbeat, the flaps open for blood to pass through and seal shut to prevent backflow. Specifically, the mitral valve opens to allow blood flow from the heart's upper left chamber to the lower left chamber. It then closes securely as the lower left chamber contracts to pump blood to the body, preventing...

A step-by-step video protocol of apical resection is demonstrated in this study. Apical resection is a recently highlighted surgical approach in mammalian heart regeneration research. This study may promote the application of apical resection as a standard methodology in research into the mechanism underlying heart regeneration.

This protocol describes an apical-out necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC)-in-a-dish model utilizing small intestinal enteroids with reversed polarity, allowing access to the apical surface. We provide an immunofluorescent staining protocol to detect NEC-related epithelial disruption and a method to determine the viability of apical-out enteroids subjected to the NEC-in-a-dish protocol.

Assessment of apical radial pulse

Apical-Radial (A-R) Pulse Assessment The A-R pulse assessment involves simultaneous evaluation of the apical and radial pulses. When the apical and radial pulse rates vary, this assessment helps identify a pulse deficit. Pre-Procedural Preparation Equipment Preparation: Gather all necessary supplies, including a watch with a second hand (for accurate counting), a stethoscope, antiseptic wipes, and a vital signs flow sheet. Patient Interaction: • Identification: Confirm the patient's...
