Laparoscopic Closure

Laparoscopic closure is the minimally invasive sealing or repair of tissue openings made during or after laparoscopic surgery, helping restore anatomical integrity while limiting incision size and tissue disruption. Surgeons perform closure through small ports using specialized instruments to approximate tissue edges with sutures, clips, staples, or other closure devices, guided by a camera and often performed under insufflation. The technique is used to close operative sites, repair defects, and secure trocar incisions, with careful tissue alignment and hemostasis supporting healing and reducing risks such as bleeding, leakage, and postoperative hernia. Its effectiveness depends on appropriate device selection, precise manipulation, and the condition of the tissue.

2025

Here, we introduce a novel approach-Laparoscopic Extracorporeal Knot-Tying for Uterine Vessel Occlusion during Hysterectomy with Cervical Cerclage in Large Uteri. A laparoscopic extracorporeal knot-pusher is used to perform cervical cerclage, achieving complete occlusion of uterine arteries. Thereafter, the corpus uteri are excised to enhance visibility and facilitate the operative field.
