Rotor Test

The Rotor test is a laboratory assessment used to investigate inherited disorders of bilirubin handling, particularly Rotor syndrome, a cause of benign conjugated hyperbilirubinemia. It evaluates urinary coproporphyrin excretion, because impaired hepatic storage and reuptake of conjugated bilirubin in Rotor syndrome alters the amount and pattern of coproporphyrin eliminated in urine. Clinicians interpret the findings alongside serum bilirubin concentrations, liver enzyme results, and other investigations to distinguish Rotor syndrome from conditions such as Dubin-Johnson syndrome and hepatobiliary disease. Although genetic testing and modern biochemical analyses may provide additional confirmation, the test illustrates how pigment transport and renal excretion can support the evaluation of unexplained jaundice.

2016

Here we describe how to build a robust spring-transport mechanism for a spinning rotor gauge. This device securely immobilizes the rotor and keeps it under vacuum during transportation. We also describe packaging that minimizes the risk of damage during transport. Tests show our design works for typical shocks during transport.

A Chronic Sleep Fragmentation Model using Vibrating Orbital Rotor to Induce Cognitive Deficit and Anxiety-Like Behavior in Young Wild-Type Mice

Presented here is a protocol for chronic sleep fragmentation (CSF) model achieved by an electrically controlled orbital rotor, which could induce confirmed cognitive deficit and anxiety-like behavior in young wild-type mice. This model can be applied to explore the pathogenesis of chronic sleep disturbance and related disorders.

Here, we present a protocol to use a curvelet transform-based, open-source MATLAB software tool for quantifying fibrillar collagen organization in the extracellular matrix of both normal and diseased tissues. This tool can be applied to images with collagen fibers or other types of line-like structures.
