Transforaminal Endoscopic Foraminotomy

Transforaminal endoscopic foraminotomy is a minimally invasive spinal procedure that enlarges a narrowed neural foramen, the passageway through which a spinal nerve exits, to relieve nerve-root compression. Through a small posterolateral access route, an endoscope provides visualization while specialized instruments remove targeted portions of bone, hypertrophied ligament, or herniated disc material without broadly disturbing surrounding tissues. The technique is used primarily for foraminal or extraforaminal stenosis associated with radicular pain, numbness, or weakness when nonsurgical treatment is insufficient. By directly addressing the compressive anatomy, it can support neural decompression, symptom relief, and recovery while informing less invasive approaches to spine care.
