Wire Insertion

Wire insertion is a medical technique in which a flexible or rigid wire is placed through tissue, a blood vessel, or bone to establish access, guide instruments, or stabilize anatomy. In many minimally invasive procedures, clinicians use a needle or small incision to position the wire, confirm its location with imaging or anatomical landmarks, and advance a catheter, implant, or other device over it before removing or retaining the wire. Applications include vascular access, drainage, endoscopic interventions, and orthopedic fixation. Proper placement, sterile technique, and control of wire movement help reduce complications and improve procedural accuracy.

Source: Ricardo Mejia-Alvarez and Hussam Hikmat Jabbar, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Michigan State University, East Lansing, MI Hot-wire anemometers have a very short time-response, which makes them ideal to measure rapidly fluctuating phenomena such as turbulent flows. The purpose of this experiment is to demonstrate the use of hot-wire anemometry.

An automated myography method for force measurements in isolated mesenteric arteries is described. It employs a Mulvany-Halpern Auto Dual Wire Myograph 510A to determine responses to phenylephrine and extracellular calcium. The method allows consistent determination of isometric responses to agonists in small vessels of diameters of 60 - 300 μm, independently.

We previously developed a technique for implanting tetrode wires into the central complex of cockroach brains that allows us to monitor activity in individual units of tethered cockroaches. Here we present a modified version of that technique that allows us to also record brain activity in freely moving insects.
