Cortical Induction Medium

Cortical induction medium is a specialized cell-culture formulation used to guide pluripotent stem cells or neural progenitors toward a cortical neural identity, supporting the in vitro study of brain development. It works by supplying nutrients and defined signaling cues that promote neural differentiation while favoring forebrain and cortical fate over alternative lineages, with exposure conditions and timing influencing the resulting cells. In neuroscience research, this medium helps generate cortical neurons and related progenitors for investigating neurodevelopment, modeling neurological disease, assessing developmental mechanisms, and evaluating potential treatments. Standardized induction also improves the consistency and reproducibility of stem-cell-derived cortical cultures.

Source: Yong P. Chen, PhD, Department of Physics & Astronomy, College of Science, Purdue University, West Lafayette, IN This experiment will use inductive coils to demonstrate the concept of inductor and inductance. Magnetic induction will be demonstrated using a rod magnet inserted into or extracted away from the core of a coil to induce a transient electromotive force (emf) voltage in the coil, measured by a voltmeter. This experiment will also demonstrate the mutual inductance between...

Astrocytes have been recognized to be versatile cells participating in fundamental biological processes that are essential for normal brain development and function, and central nervous system repair. Here we present a rapid procedure to obtain pure mouse astrocyte cultures to study the biology of this major class of central nervous system cells.

University of Notre Dame, IN The Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals ("The Guide") states that pain assessment and alleviation are integral components of the veterinary care of laboratory animals. The definition of anesthesia is the loss of feeling or sensation. It is a dynamic event involving changes in anesthetic depth with respect to an animal's metabolism, surgical stimulation, or variations in the...
