Nerve Removal Technique

Nerve removal technique refers to procedures that excise or sever a selected nerve to interrupt communication between peripheral tissues and the nervous system. By eliminating axonal pathways, the method prevents transmission of sensory or motor signals and allows researchers to compare neural function before and after denervation, often while monitoring behavioral, physiological, or anatomical changes. In neuroscience, nerve removal supports studies of neural circuitry, peripheral nerve regeneration, pain pathways, and target-organ responses. Careful selection of the nerve, surgical control, and post-procedure assessment are essential for distinguishing effects caused by denervation from those caused by tissue injury or experimental stress.

2025

This video describes the surgical procedure to remove the two parts: palpebral and orbital of the superior lacrimal gland from a rabbit to create a dry eye disease model. This rabbit model is suitable for studies of ocular surface homeostasis, pathophysiology and ocular therapeutics.

A Stereotactically Guided Ablation Technique for Auditory Cortex Removal in Rats

2025

This video demonstrates a stereotactically-guided surgical procedure for ablating the auditory cortex in a rat. The steps include identifying anatomical landmarks in an anesthetized rat secured in a stereotactic frame, creating a window on the skull above the auditory cortex, aspirating the cortical layers, and providing post-operative care to assess the impact of the ablation on sound processing.
