Schneider Medium Culture

Schneider Medium Culture refers to the use of Schneider’s Drosophila medium, a nutrient solution formulated to maintain and grow insect cells outside the organism. Its balanced salts, amino acids, vitamins, carbohydrates, and commonly added serum support cellular metabolism, survival, and proliferation under controlled laboratory conditions. In neuroscience, the medium is used for culturing Drosophila-derived neuronal cells and tissues, enabling researchers to examine cell morphology, neural development, signaling, and responses to experimental treatments. These cultures provide a tractable model for studying conserved mechanisms of nervous-system function and disease while allowing direct observation and manipulation of cells in vitro.
