Constant Velocity Motion

Constant velocity motion is the movement of an object with unchanging velocity, meaning its speed and direction remain constant over time. This condition occurs when the net force is zero, producing no acceleration, and the object’s position changes linearly according to x = x₀ + vt, where x₀ is the initial position and v is velocity. In physics, analyzing constant velocity motion helps students interpret position-time and velocity-time graphs, distinguish displacement from distance, and predict an object’s location at a given time. It also provides a foundational model for studying more complex motion involving acceleration and changing forces.

Here, we present a novel protocol to non-invasively measure the torque-angular velocity-power relationship in vivo in rat plantar flexors using transcutaneous muscle stimulation. This setup enables simple testing of isotonic muscle contractions on a force transducer/length controller system to better represent the constant-load nature of everyday movements.

A stroke engine has a slider-crank mechanism that converts rotational motion from the crank into linear motion of the slider or vice versa. This mechanism consists of three main parts: the crank, the connecting rod, and the slider. When an external force is exerted, it sets the crank into a rotational movement. This, in turn, instigates the motion of the connecting rod, leading to what is referred to as a general plane motion. This process involves two key points - point A on the connecting rod...

The motion of an object in space, such as a drone flying through the air, can be described mathematically using a position vector, denoted r(t), which specifies the object's location at any given time t. Analyzing the motion of the drone involves examining how this position vector changes over time. The average velocity over a time interval is obtained by dividing the change in position by the duration of the interval. As the interval becomes infinitesimally small, this average velocity...

This lab will begin by studying motion in 1 dimension, under constant acceleration, by launching a projectile directly upward and measuring the maximum height reached. This lab will verify that the maximum height reached is consistent with the kinematic...

Source: Andrew Duffy, PhD, Department of Physics, Boston University, Boston, MA This experiment examines at various situations involving two interacting objects. First, the experiment examines the forces that two objects apply to one another while they collide. The objects are wheeled carts that have variable masses. The purpose of this experiment is to discover when the force the first cart exerts on the other is the same magnitude as the force the second cart exerts back on the first, as well...
