This study investigates the internalization mechanism of uropathogenic bacteria in the urinary tract of male mice. The research highlights how these bacteria evade the immune response by forming intracellular bacterial communities (IBCs).
This urinary tract infection model in male mice enables mechanistic study of bacterial internalization and intracellular community formation, supporting target validation in anti-infective discovery. The model provides a disease-relevant system for evaluating therapeutic candidates that disrupt bacterial-host interactions or toxin-mediated pathways. It supports preclinical de-risking by clarifying mechanisms of immune evasion and persistence in uroepithelial cells.
The model fits within the infectious disease discovery continuum from target validation through preclinical efficacy testing, particularly for anti-virulence and biofilm-disrupting strategies.
