Diazepam Effect

Diazepam effect refers to the behavioral and physiological changes produced by diazepam, a benzodiazepine medication that is widely used to study anxiety, sedation, and motor activity. It enhances the action of the inhibitory neurotransmitter GABA at GABA_A receptors, increasing neuronal inhibition and often reducing anxiety, arousal, muscle tone, and seizure activity. In behavioral research, diazepam serves as a pharmacological tool for evaluating anxiety-like behavior, locomotion, exploration, learning, and drug sensitivity in animal models. Interpreting these effects requires distinguishing reduced anxiety from sedation or impaired motor performance, helping researchers connect behavioral outcomes with neural inhibition and therapeutic mechanisms.

Here, we present a protocol to quantify allergen-loaded particles by flow cytometry. Ambient particulate matter particles may act as carriers of adsorbed allergens. We show here that flow cytometry, a method widely used to characterize suspended solids >0.5 µm in diameter, can be used to measure these allergen-loaded particles.
