Lab Streaming Layer

Lab Streaming Layer (LSL) is a software framework and networking protocol for collecting, transporting, and synchronizing time-series data from laboratory instruments and behavioral tasks. It enables devices and applications to publish or receive streams over a local network, while shared timestamps, stream metadata, and buffering support alignment despite differences in device clocks and sampling rates. In behavior research, LSL can combine response events with eye tracking, motion capture, physiological signals, or neural recordings to create synchronized multimodal datasets. This coordination improves the timing and reproducibility of experiments, supports precise analysis of behavior and brain-behavior relationships, and simplifies integration across research hardware and software.

In two-dimensional incompressible fluid flow, the continuity equation is essential for ensuring mass conservation, meaning that any change in fluid entering or exiting a region is balanced by a corresponding change elsewhere. For incompressible flow, where density remains constant, this requirement simplifies to the condition that the divergence of the velocity field must be zero. Mathematically, this is expressed as, where u and v represent the horizontal and vertical velocity components,...

Measurement Accuracy The ability to repeat an experiment and get the same results, or reproducibility, is essential in scientific research. However, it’s impossible to repeat an experiment if you don’t know how you did it. Thus, scientists keep detailed records of their experiments in lab notebooks. These records include important information like the amount of each material used and descriptions of each step of the procedure. Equipment, like balances and volumetric or graduated glassware, is...

Please adjust quantities as needed. To set up for this lab experiment, wear the appropriate personal protective equipment, including a lab coat, chemical splash goggles, and gloves. Obtain enough small plastic bottles with caps for the number of students and label them ‘NaCl’. Use a...

Source: Smaa Koraym at Johns Hopkins University, MD, USA Determining the Density of an EggExpand Density is a measure of how compact a substance or object is, and it is calculated as mass divided by volume. When a dense object is placed in a liquid with a lower density, the object sinks; when the object is less dense than the liquid, it floats. When the densities are the same, the object will be suspended in the liquid. In this experiment, we'll determine the density of an egg by creating a...

Chromatography Chromatography is a technique used in organic chemistry to separate compounds in a mixture based on their differences in solubility between two different phases. The concept is similar to liquid-liquid extraction, except in chromatography, the two phases consist of the stationary phase and the mobile phase. The stationary phase is a solid — typically a microscale hydrogel bead — while the mobile phase is a carrier solvent. In traditional chromatography, the stationary phase is...
