Peptide Conjugation Method

Peptide conjugation methods are chemical strategies for covalently linking a peptide to another molecule, such as a protein, polymer, drug, or imaging agent, to combine their properties in bioengineering and biomedical research. They typically bring complementary reactive groups, including amines, carboxyls, or thiols, together under controlled conditions so a coupling reaction forms a stable bond while preserving the peptide’s functional sequence. These methods support targeted delivery, biomaterial modification, biosensor design, and molecular probe development, enabling researchers to tune solubility, stability, molecular recognition, and cellular interactions for diagnostic, therapeutic, and engineered biological applications.

Lectin-conjugated POROS beads were employed for HPLC. Glycopeptide standards served as positive and negative controls. MARS-14 depleted, trypsin-digested human plasma was chromatographed and flow-through (FT) and bound fractions collected for ESI-LC-MS/MS analyses. Glycopeptides were enriched in the bound fraction as compared to FT.

Source: Alexander S. Gold1, Tonya M. Colpitts1 1 Department of Microbiology, Boston University School of Medicine, National Emerging Infections Diseases Laboratories, Boston, MA First discovered by Lederberg and Tatum in 1946, conjugation is a form of horizontal gene transfer between bacteria that relies on direct physical contact between two bacterial cells (1). Unlike other forms of gene transfer, such as transformation or transduction, conjugation is a naturally occurring process in which...
