Robotic Sample Changer

A robotic sample changer is an automated laboratory system that transfers samples between racks, storage locations, instruments, and processing stations, improving the speed and consistency of experimental workflows. It operates through programmed motion of a robotic arm or gantry, coordinated with sample carriers, instrument interfaces, and software that determines the order and destination of each sample while limiting manual handling. In bioengineering, robotic sample changers support high-throughput workflows such as analytical testing, biomolecular assays, and materials characterization, helping researchers process larger sample sets, reduce handling errors and contamination risk, and produce more reproducible data. Integration with laboratory automation can further connect sample tracking and parallel experimentation.
