Camp Synthesis

cAMP synthesis is the cellular process that produces cyclic adenosine monophosphate, a second messenger that relays signals from cell-surface receptors to intracellular targets. It occurs when activated adenylyl cyclase converts ATP into cAMP, often following stimulation of G protein-coupled receptors and Gs proteins; phosphodiesterases later limit the signal by degrading cAMP. Through protein kinase A and other effectors, cAMP regulates gene expression, metabolism, ion transport, and cell behavior. Studying this pathway helps researchers understand hormone and neurotransmitter signaling, investigate disease mechanisms, and evaluate drugs that alter intracellular communication.

Cyclic Adenosine Monophosphate (cAMP) is an essential second messenger that activates protein kinase A (PKA) and regulates various biological processes. A single epinephrine molecule binds to GPCR and activates several heterotrimeric G proteins, each stimulating multiple adenylyl cyclase, amplifying the signal, and synthesizing large numbers of cAMP molecules. Small changes in cAMP concentration affect PKA activity. The binding of four cAMP molecules induces a conformational change in PKA,...
