Cell One Assay

The Cell One Assay is a single-cell analytical method that measures the properties or responses of individual cells rather than averaging signals across an entire cell population. It works by isolating or identifying cells one at a time and recording a measurable readout, such as fluorescence, morphology, viability, or cellular activity, under defined experimental conditions. This approach reveals cell-to-cell heterogeneity that bulk assays can obscure and supports analysis of rare cell populations, treatment responses, and functional variation. In biology research, the Cell One Assay can strengthen studies of cell behavior, disease mechanisms, and experimental reproducibility by linking biological outcomes to individual cells.

Viability Assays for Cells in Culture

2014

Therapeutic compounds are often first examined in vitro with viability assays. Blind cell counts by a human observer can be highly sensitive to small changes in cell number but do not assess function. Computerized viability assays, as described here, can assess both structure and function in an objective manner.

Cell-surface Biotinylation Assay

2023

A cell can regulate the amount of particular proteins on its cell membrane through endocytosis, following which cell surface proteins are effectively sequestered in the cytoplasm. Once within a cell, these surface proteins can be either destroyed or “recycled” back to the membrane. The cell surface biotinylation assay provides researchers with a way to study these phenomena. The technique makes use of a derivative of the small molecule biotin, which can label surface proteins and then be...
