Functional Mmp Detection

Functional MMP detection measures the enzymatic activity of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), proteases that regulate extracellular matrix remodeling and influence processes such as development, inflammation, and tissue repair. Unlike assays that measure MMP abundance alone, functional methods use peptide or protein substrates that are cleaved by active enzymes, often producing a fluorescent or otherwise measurable signal. These assays can reveal differences between active and inactive MMP forms and assess how inhibitors, signaling conditions, or disease-related changes alter proteolytic activity. In biology and biomedical research, functional MMP detection supports studies of cell invasion, wound healing, cancer progression, and therapeutic response.
