Mammalian Ovulation

Mammalian ovulation is the reproductive process in which a mature ovarian follicle releases a secondary oocyte, making it available for potential fertilization. It is initiated by a mid-cycle surge of luteinizing hormone, which promotes follicular enzyme activity, changes in ovarian blood flow and pressure, and rupture of the follicle wall; the oocyte is then captured by the uterine tube. Ovulation coordinates ovarian and reproductive-tract changes that support fertilization and pregnancy. Studying this process helps explain menstrual and estrous cycles, infertility, assisted reproduction, and hormonal contraception, while providing insight into how endocrine signals regulate reproductive function.

2025

This video describes the technique of transferring embryos into the oviduct of a recipient female rabbit via Laparoscopy. It allows embryo remodeling in rabbits during its migration through the oviduct, eventually helping in successful implantation. This technique can also be used for stored embryos with good efficiency.

(2016)This video demonstrates the expansion of plaque-derived recombinant virus in adherent mammalian cells. The virus carries a fluorescent reporter in place of a virulent gene, enabling infection tracking. Infected cells are harvested for PCR verification of the genetic modification.

Electroporation of Functional Bacterial Effectors into Mammalian Cells

Electroporation was used to insert purified bacterial virulence effector proteins directly into living eukaryotic cells. Protein localization was monitored by confocal immunofluorescence microscopy. This method allows for studies on trafficking, function, and protein-protein interactions using active exogenous proteins, avoiding the need for heterologous expression in eukaryotic cells.
