Tumor Fragment Implantation

Tumor fragment implantation is a biological research method in which pieces of a tumor are surgically placed into a recipient organism to establish an in vivo tumor model. The implanted tissue can engraft when its cells survive, receive blood supply, and interact with the host microenvironment, often in immunodeficient animals that reduce immune rejection. Because the fragments may retain aspects of the original tumor’s cellular organization and heterogeneity, this approach supports studies of tumor growth, invasion, metastasis, and treatment response. It also provides a platform for comparing therapies and investigating how tumor cells communicate with surrounding stromal and vascular tissues.

Tumor Implantation and Injection of a Tumor Vaccine in a Mouse Model

2025

This video demonstrates a cell-based tumor vaccination assay. A mouse, intradermally injected with B16-F10 melanoma cells for tumor formation, is vaccinated with B16-F10 cells secreting Flt3L cytokine near the developed tumor. The secreted Flt3L from the vaccine promotes the maturation and proliferation of dendritic cells that then present tumor antigens to T cells in lymph nodes, triggering a targeted anti-tumor immune response.

Habitat Fragmentation

2020

Habitat fragmentation describes the division of a more extensive, continuous habitat into smaller, discontinuous areas. Human activities such as land conversion, as well as slower geological processes leading to changes in the physical environment, are the two leading causes of habitat fragmentation. The fragmentation process typically follows the same steps: perforation, dissection, fragmentation, shrinkage, and attrition. Perforation and dissection often occur during the initial stages of...

We describe an integrated method for the precise, stereotactic implantation of human glioblastoma multiforme cells into the brains of nude mice and subsequent serial in vivo imaging to monitor growth and response to treatment of the resultant xenografts.

Generating Rabbit Liver Carcinoma Model: A Surgical Procedure to Implant Tumor Tissue in Left Lobe of Liver for Induction of Hepatocellular Carcinoma
