Volumetric Labware

Volumetric labware comprises laboratory vessels and instruments designed to measure, contain, or transfer specific liquid volumes with defined levels of accuracy, making it essential for reliable biological experiments. Calibration marks, fixed capacities, and techniques such as reading the meniscus at eye level help users obtain reproducible measurements while accounting for factors including temperature and liquid handling. Common examples include volumetric flasks, graduated cylinders, and pipettes, which support solution preparation, dilution, reagent delivery, and quantitative assays. Proper selection and use of volumetric labware improve experimental consistency and help researchers compare results across samples, protocols, and laboratories.

Volumetric muscle loss (VML) injuries exceed endogenous regenerative ability, resulting in permanent functional deficits. Current VML research primarily focuses on limb and trunk muscles. To extend mechanistic studies of VML to craniofacial muscles, this article describes an in vivo method for longitudinal assessment of masseter muscle function pre- and post-VML injury.
