Drug Repurposing Platform

A drug repurposing platform is an integrated computational and experimental system for identifying new therapeutic uses for existing drugs, often reducing the time and cost of cancer drug development. It combines molecular profiles, drug-response databases, computational matching, and laboratory screening to connect a compound’s known targets or mechanisms with vulnerabilities in tumor cells, followed by validation in relevant cellular or animal models. In cancer research, these platforms can prioritize candidates for combination therapy, reveal activity across tumor types, and support biomarker-guided studies while helping researchers assess efficacy, toxicity, and translational feasibility before clinical testing.

Fission Yeast as a Platform for Antibacterial Drug Screens Targeting Bacterial Cytoskeleton Proteins

2024

Fission yeast is used here as a heterologous host to express bacterial cytoskeletal proteins such as FtsZ and MreB as translational fusion proteins with GFP to visualize their polymerization. Also, compounds that affect polymerization are identified by imaging using a fluorescence microscope.

2013

Protein complexes catalyze key cellular functions. Detailed functional and structural characterization of many essential complexes requires recombinant production. MultiBac is a baculovirus/insect cell system particularly tailored for expressing eukaryotic proteins and their complexes. MultiBac was implemented as an open-access platform, and standard operating procedures developed to maximize its utility.
