Tumor Treatment

Tumor treatment refers to medical strategies used to control or eliminate abnormal cell growth, particularly malignant tumors, and is central to cancer care and research. Depending on tumor type, stage, and location, treatment may remove the tumor surgically, damage cancer-cell DNA with radiation, block growth signaling with targeted drugs, or activate immune responses against tumor cells. Systemic therapies can reach cancer cells beyond the primary site, while combination regimens aim to improve control and limit resistance. Research evaluates treatment safety, biomarkers, tumor response, recurrence, and patient outcomes to develop more precise and durable therapies.

Electrochemotherapy is the local treatment of solid tumors. The main mechanism is electroporation-mediated permeabilization of the tumor cells' membrane which enables increased internalization of cytostatics like bleomycin and cisplatin. Thus, antitumor effectiveness is potentiated at the site of the application of electric pulses to the tumors.

Bioluminescence imaging is a well-known tool for localizing tumors and metastases, but quantification of these images often requires complex calculations and particular instruments. We describe the easy-to-use luminoscore method, based on precise acquisition conditions, requiring no calculations, and enabling tumor burden and treatment response to be monitored in mouse models.
