Blueberry Analysis

Blueberry analysis is the chemical characterization of blueberry tissues, juices, or products to determine their nutrients, pigments, phenolic compounds, sugars, acids, and other constituents. In a typical workflow, researchers homogenize a sample, extract target compounds with a suitable solvent, and separate or identify them using techniques such as high-performance liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry, or spectrophotometry. Measurements can reveal anthocyanin profiles, antioxidant-related phenolics, maturity changes, processing effects, and differences among cultivars. These data support food quality control, authenticity assessment, nutritional research, and the development of blueberry-based products while linking molecular composition to color, flavor, and potential biological activity.

2011

A push-pull method for collecting plant volatiles is described. The method allows for a comparison of volatiles induced by herbivore feeding, exogenous methyl jasmonate, and mechanical damage. This technique is also used to investigate the volatile response of undamaged branches to exposure to volatiles from herbivore-damaged branches within blueberry plants.

Colletotrichum fioriniae Development in Water and Chloroform-based Blueberry and Cranberry Floral Extracts

2019

Here, bioassays designed to monitor the development of a fungal pathogen, Colletotrichum fioriniae, in the presence of blueberry or cranberry floral extracts on glass coverslips are described. Water-, chloroform-, and field rainwater- based floral extraction techniques are detailed as well as insight into how this information can be applied.

This article describes a novel protocol and reagent set designed for sensitive measurement of neurotoxic effects of compounds and treatments on co-cultures of neurons and astrocytes using high content analysis. Results demonstrate that high content analysis represents an exciting novel technology for neurotoxicity assessment.

Automated Analysis of Intracellular Phenotypes of Salmonella Using ImageJ

Salmonella invades and replicates inside intestinal epithelial cells both in Salmonella-specific vacuoles and free in the cytosol (hyper-replication). A high-throughput fluorescence microscopy-based protocol is described here to quantify the intracellular phenotypes of Salmonella by two complementary image analyses through ImageJ, reaching single-cell resolution and scoring.
