Conical Top

A conical top is a tapered, cone-shaped upper section used in engineered structures, containers, and equipment to control geometry, loading, or material movement. Its inclined surfaces redirect applied forces and guide liquids, powders, particles, or airflow toward or away from a central opening, while the narrowing profile can reduce accumulation and improve structural efficiency. Engineers use conical tops in hoppers, tanks, silos, pressure vessels, roofs, and process equipment, where shape influences stability, drainage, discharge, and fabrication. Understanding the relationship between cone angle, material properties, and operating conditions supports safer designs and more reliable industrial performance.

Polar Equations of Conics

2025

A conic section can be defined in polar coordinates as the set of all points whose distance from a fixed point, known as the focus, bears a constant ratio to their distance from a fixed line, known as the directrix. This constant ratio is called the eccentricity. This definition unifies all types of conic sections—ellipses, parabolas, and hyperbolas—under a single framework. When the focus is positioned at the origin of the polar coordinate system, a single polar equation can describe any conic...

This article describes a standard method to get a three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction of biological macromolecules using negative staining electron microscopy (EM). In this protocol, we explain how to get the 3D structure of the Saccharomyces cerevisiae exosome complex at medium resolution using the random conical tilt reconstruction method (RCT).

Method for Obtaining Primary Ovarian Cancer Cells From Solid Specimens
