Glow Stick Model

Glow Stick Model is a mathematical representation of how a glow stick’s light intensity changes over time, making an everyday chemical process suitable for quantitative analysis. It commonly uses an exponential decay function, I(t) = I₀e⁻ᵏᵗ, in which initial intensity, elapsed time, and a decay constant describe the gradual consumption of reactants; temperature can alter the reaction rate and therefore the value of k. In mathematics education and applied modeling, this model helps students fit data, interpret parameters, compare conditions, estimate brightness at a given time, and evaluate how well an idealized equation represents real chemiluminescent behavior.

We present a rapid and inexpensive screening method for identifying transcriptional regulators using high-throughput robotic transfections and a homemade dual-glow luciferase assay. This protocol rapidly generates direct side-by-side functional data for thousands of genes and is easily modifiable to target any gene of interest.

Finger-stick Blood Sampling Methodology for the Determination of Exercise-induced Lymphocyte Apoptosis

Exercise is capable of inducing apoptosis in immune cells. There are various measurement limitations, particularly relating to the amount of time required to isolate and treat a blood sample prior to the assessment. Demonstrated is a rapid and minimally invasive procedure for the analysis of exercise-induced lymphocyte apoptosis.

2020

Physical models representing molecular architectures of chemical compounds play essential roles in understanding chemistry. The use of molecular models makes it easier to visualize the structures and shapes of atoms and molecules. Skeletal Model Simpler two-dimensional representations of chemical compounds are accomplished using skeletal models. The illustration shows only the molecular framework or bonds without explicitly showing the atoms. In this representation, many of the carbon atoms...

2014

Neuropathic pain is a consequence of a lesion or disease affecting the somatosensory system. The “cuff model” of neuropathic pain in mice consists of the implantation of a polyethylene cuff around the main branch of the sciatic nerve. Mechanical allodynia is tested using von Frey filaments.

Chicken Chorioallantoic Membrane-based Cancer Modeling: An In Ovo Model to Study Cancer Cell Tumorigenesis and Metastasis
