Ingestible Temperature Pill

An ingestible temperature pill is a swallowable electronic sensor that measures internal body temperature, offering a noninvasive way to monitor thermal changes in medicine. After ingestion, the device detects temperature within the gastrointestinal tract and transmits measurements wirelessly to an external receiver or recording system as it moves through the digestive tract. These data can help characterize fever, circadian temperature patterns, thermoregulation, and responses to illness or treatment. Compared with surface thermometers, ingestible sensors may provide a closer representation of core temperature, supporting clinical monitoring and research in physiology, gastrointestinal function, and drug development.

Physiology of the Gastrointestinal System I: Ingestion and Propulsion

2025

The physiology of the gastrointestinal system begins with ingestion as food enters the mouth. Taste and Salivation: Ingestion is both mechanical and sensory. Taste buds on the tongue detect flavors, triggering brain signals that stimulate salivary glands to produce more saliva. This response is essential for appetite regulation and digestive enzyme secretion. Role of Teeth in Mastication: Different tooth types have specific roles in mechanical digestion. Incisors cut, canines tear, and...

Chemical Kinetics The reaction rate is the speed at which a chemical reaction occurs. The reaction rate is defined as the change in concentration of a component in the reaction with time. The speed of a reaction depends on several factors, including the concentration of reactants and the temperature at which the reaction is performed. Each reactant contributes to the speed of the reaction by a specific factor. This relationship is defined by the reaction rate law. Rate Law The rate law is an...

Source: Smaa Koraym at Johns Hopkins University, MD, USA Temperature Dependent Decomposition of Hydrogen PeroxideExpand We suggest that students work in pairs for this experiment. Equipment controls may vary. In this lab, you'll perform a decomposition reaction where a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler products. You will observe the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen. This decomposition happens very slowly, so you will use iron (III) nitrate as a...
