Mechanical Validation

Mechanical validation is the systematic evaluation of how a medical device, implant, prosthesis, or biomaterial responds to physical forces under defined conditions. It works by applying controlled loads, pressures, motion, or repeated cycles while measuring properties such as stress, strain, deformation, strength, stiffness, and fatigue resistance against predetermined performance criteria. In medicine, these tests help determine whether products can withstand expected use, maintain structural integrity, and function safely in the body. Mechanical validation supports device development, quality assurance, regulatory submissions, and risk assessment, while also informing improvements to materials, design, manufacturing processes, and patient-specific applications.

Reliability and Validity

Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways. Unfortunately, being consistent in measurement does not necessarily mean that you have measured something correctly. To illustrate this concept, consider a kitchen...

Method validation is a crucial process in analytical chemistry designed to confirm that a given method consistently produces reliable and high-quality results. This process is essential when a method is applied to different sample matrices or when procedural modifications are made, ensuring that the results meet acceptable standards across various applications. Key parameters for method validation include: Specificity: The ability of the method to accurately measure the target analyte without...
