Mri Stroke Diagnosis

MRI stroke diagnosis is the use of magnetic resonance imaging to identify and characterize brain injury caused by stroke, helping clinicians distinguish ischemic tissue damage from other causes of neurological symptoms. Diffusion-weighted MRI detects restricted movement of water molecules in swollen cells, often revealing acute ischemia before structural changes appear on conventional scans. Additional sequences such as FLAIR, susceptibility-weighted imaging, and MR angiography can show lesion extent, bleeding, and blocked or narrowed vessels. This approach supports rapid diagnosis, treatment selection, and prognosis, while providing a nonionizing method for monitoring recovery and guiding research into cerebrovascular disease.

Early detection of apoptosis may identify at-risk cell populations in a variety of diseases. Here we demonstrate a method to link an early apoptosis-detection protein (Annexin V) to a MRI-detectable iron oxide nanoparticle (SPIO). This method may be extended to other proteins of interest to generate MRI-detectable molecular imaging probes.
