Single Chamber Icd

A single-chamber implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) is a cardiac device that monitors and treats dangerous ventricular arrhythmias, helping prevent sudden cardiac death. It uses one transvenous lead positioned in the right ventricle to sense heart rhythm; when it detects ventricular tachycardia or ventricular fibrillation, the device can deliver antitachycardia pacing or an electrical shock to restore a safer rhythm. Clinicians use single-chamber ICDs for patients at risk of life-threatening ventricular arrhythmias, including some individuals with cardiomyopathy or previous cardiac arrest. Understanding their sensing, detection, and therapy functions supports appropriate device selection, implantation, programming, and long-term follow-up in cardiovascular medicine.

A New Single Chamber Implantable Defibrillator with Atrial Sensing: A Practical Demonstration of Sensing and Ease of Implantation

Dual-chamber implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs) may improve detection of atrial fibrillation as well as differentiation of tachycardias. However, this advantage is undermined by complications associated with the second electrode, which is required in conventional dual chamber devices. Therefore, BIOTRONIK has developed a new electrode called the LinoxSMART S DX that, when used in conjunction with the Lumax DX ICD, offers dual-chamber detection without the risks associated with the...

Chambers of the Heart

2025

The human heart is a complex organ made up of four chambers: the right and left atria and the right and left ventricles. These internal chambers are separated by partitions known as the interatrial and interventricular septa. The exterior of the heart features a groove known as the coronary sulcus that demarcates the atria from the ventricles, while the anterior and posterior interventricular sulci distinguish between the two ventricles. Deoxygenated blood from the body is received in the right...
