Chamber Assembly

Chamber assembly is the construction of a controlled enclosure that holds biological samples, solutions, or experimental components while providing defined access for measurement and manipulation. In neuroscience, an assembly commonly combines a chamber body, seals, fluid inlets and outlets, and optical or electrode interfaces; regulated perfusion can maintain tissue conditions while delivering reagents and removing waste. Carefully assembled chambers support brain-slice preparation, electrophysiology, live-cell imaging, and stimulation experiments by limiting leaks, vibration, and environmental changes. Reliable chamber design improves sample viability, measurement consistency, and reproducibility, making it important for studying neural activity and cellular responses under controlled laboratory conditions.

The analytical ultracentrifuge (AUC) sample cell holds sample and reference buffer and during experiments and is exposed to high vacuum and rotor speeds up to 60,000 rpm. This video will demonstrate the rigorous attention to detail necessary for assembly, loading and alignment of this very important component of an AUC experiment.

Chambers of the Heart

2025

The human heart is a complex organ made up of four chambers: the right and left atria and the right and left ventricles. These internal chambers are separated by partitions known as the interatrial and interventricular septa. The exterior of the heart features a groove known as the coronary sulcus that demarcates the atria from the ventricles, while the anterior and posterior interventricular sulci distinguish between the two ventricles. Deoxygenated blood from the body is received in the right...

Human Neutrophil Flow Chamber Adhesion Assay

2014

A method of quantitating neutrophil adhesion is reported. This method creates a dynamic flow environment similar to that encountered in a blood vessel. It allows the investigation of neutrophil adhesion to either purified adhesion molecules (ligand) or endothelial cell substrate (HUVEC) in a context similar to the in vivo environment with sheer stress.

Protein Complex Assembly

2020

Proteins can form homomeric complexes with another unit of the same protein or heteromeric complexes with different types. Most protein complexes self-assemble spontaneously via ordered pathways, while some proteins need assembly factors that guide their proper assembly. Despite the crowded intracellular environment, proteins usually interact with their correct partners and form functional complexes. Many viruses self-assemble into a fully functional unit using the infected host cell to...
