Ventricular System Injection

Ventricular system injection is a neuroscience technique that delivers drugs, genes, tracers, or other experimental substances into the brain’s cerebrospinal fluid-filled ventricles. Typically, a needle or implanted cannula is positioned within a lateral ventricle, allowing the injected material to enter cerebrospinal fluid and circulate through ventricular pathways to influence nearby or distributed central nervous system targets. Researchers use this approach to study brain signaling, test therapeutic candidates, model neurological disorders, and examine how substances affect behavior or neural function. Because it bypasses the blood-brain barrier, ventricular system injection can provide controlled access to the brain while requiring careful targeting and dose management.

Supramolecular hydrogelators based on ureido-pyrimidinones allow full control over the macroscopic gel properties and the sol–gel switching behavior using pH. Here, we present a protocol for formulating and injecting such a supramolecular hydrogelator via a catheter delivery system for local delivery directly in relevant areas in the pig heart.

Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension and Assessment of Right Ventricular Function in the Piglet

Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension (CTEPH) and Right Ventricular (RV) dysfunction were induced in piglets by progressive obstruction of the pulmonary arteries. Consequences were remarkably similar to those observed in CTEPH patients. This animal model would be a very useful tool for pathophysiology and therapeutic experiments on CTEPH and RV failure.
