Coast Down Test

A coast down test is an experimental method for measuring how a moving vehicle slows when its propulsion is removed, revealing the effects of resistive forces. During the test, a vehicle is brought to a specified speed and allowed to roll in neutral or with the drivetrain disengaged while speed and time are recorded. The resulting deceleration is analyzed under controlled conditions to separate contributions from rolling resistance, aerodynamic drag, and mechanical losses. In physics and automotive engineering, coast down data help estimate drag coefficients, validate vehicle models, compare design changes, and assess energy efficiency without relying on powered acceleration measurements.

Conservation of Small Populations

2019

Small population sizes put a species at extreme risk of extinction due to a lack of variation, and a consequent decrease in adaptability. This weakens the chances of survival under pressures such as climate change, competition from other species, or new diseases. Large populations are more likely to survive pressures such as these, as such populations are more likely to harbor individuals that have genetic variants that are adaptive under new stresses. Small populations are much less likely to...

Highly Efficient Ligation of Small RNA Molecules for MicroRNA Quantitation by High-Throughput Sequencing

Here, we present a protocol to use a curvelet transform-based, open-source MATLAB software tool for quantifying fibrillar collagen organization in the extracellular matrix of both normal and diseased tissues. This tool can be applied to images with collagen fibers or other types of line-like structures.
