Nupur Fangaria, Ph.D.

Science Editor
Nupur received her Ph.D. from University of Hyderabad, India. Her work involved studying a potential role of Heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90) and one of its co-chaperone, Aha1, in the DNA repair pathway. She not only found that Hsp90 regulates the functioning of Rad51 (the central player of the homologous recombination mediated DNA repair pathway) but also that Hsp90 itself undergoes a DNA damage dependent nuclear import. The DNA damage signal causes a conformational shift in Hsp90 mediated by Aha1 that leads to the nuclear import of Hsp90 and its recruitment to the DNA repair sites. She found that this nuclear import of Hsp90 during DNA damage conditions is crucial for the proper functioning of the homologous recombination mediated DNA repair pathway. Pursuing a career outside of academia, she joined JoVE as a Science Editor in 2023. During her spare time, Nupur is often found either painting with watercolours and acrylics or reading fiction novels.
