Here is a procedure that explains how to measure an oral temperature using an electronic thermometer.
Before any procedure, it is crucial to practice proper hand hygiene to prevent the transmission of harmful microorganisms.
Next, remove the thermometer from the charging unit and switch on the thermometer and wait for the ready sign.
Gently insert the probe cover until it securely snaps into place, preventing potential cross-contamination.
Instruct the patient to open their mouth and gently insert the probe beneath the tongue in the posterior sublingual pocket lateral to the center of the lower jaw.
Then, advise the patient to close the lips around the thermometer, as it helps maintain proper placement.
Click the scan button on the thermometer and keep the probe in place until the audible sound signals.
Remove the probe from the mouth once the patient&#39;s temperature appears on the display unit.
Next, discard the probe cover by pushing the ejection button.
Lastly, disinfect and replace the equipment, perform hand hygiene, and document the findings.

Instruct the patient to open their mouth and place the thermometer probe beneath their tongue in the posterior sublingual pocket within the side of the lower jaw. Positioning the probe deep within this pocket establishes contact with the blood vessels closest to the surface.
Step 5:
Advise the patient to close their lips around the thermometer. Ensure they don&#39;t bite it to maintain the correct position.
Step 6:
Click the scan button on the equipment and keep the probe in place until an audible sound indicates completion. The patient&#39;s temperature will then appear on the display unit.
Step 7:
Remove the probe from the mouth and dispose of the probe cover by pressing the ejection button on the thermometer probe stem.
Step 8:
Perform hand hygiene once again and document the findings.
Step 9:
Finally, place the thermometer probe back into its charging unit.

Oral temperature checks use an electronic thermometer to measure body temperature through the mouth. Proper hand hygiene comes first to help prevent the spread of microorganisms. The thermometer is then removed from the charging unit, turned on, and used only after the ready sign appears.

A probe cover is slid on until a click is heard. This helps prevent cross-contamination and keeps the cover in the correct place. The patient is asked to open the mouth, and the probe is placed under the tongue in the posterior sublingual pocket on the side of the lower jaw. That position places the probe near blood vessels close to the surface.

The patient then closes the lips around the thermometer. The probe should stay in place, and the patient should not bite it. Next, the scan button is pressed, and the thermometer remains in place until an audible sound signals that the reading is complete. The temperature then appears on the display unit.

After the reading, the probe is removed from the mouth and the probe cover is ejected from the probe stem. Hand hygiene is performed again, and the result is documented. The probe is then returned to its charging unit.
