Labview Automation

LabVIEW automation is the use of National Instruments’ graphical programming environment to control instruments, acquire data, and coordinate experimental workflows. It operates through virtual instruments built from front panels and block diagrams, linking sensors, data-acquisition hardware, analysis functions, and device-control interfaces into repeatable programs. In biology, researchers can automate tasks such as environmental monitoring, imaging, sample handling, and physiological measurements while recording results in standardized formats. This approach reduces manual intervention, improves timing and reproducibility, and supports real-time visualization and analysis, making complex laboratory systems easier to operate and scale.

2016

Peptide adsorption to plasticware during traditional tip-based serial dilutions can significantly impact potency determination and confound the understanding of structure-activity relationships used for lead identification and lead optimization phases of drug discovery. Here methods for automated acoustic non-contact serial dilution of peptide samples are described.

Ice binding proteins (IBPs), also known as antifreeze proteins, inhibit ice growth and are a promising additive for use in the cryopreservation of tissues. The main tool used to investigate IBPs is the nanoliter osmometer. We developed a home-designed cooling stage mounted on an optical microscope and controlled using a custom-built LabVIEW routine. The nanoliter osmometer described here manipulated the sample temperature in an ultra-sensitive manner.
