Conduit Visualization

Conduit visualization is the process of representing pipes, channels, and other enclosed pathways that transport water, air, sediments, or contaminants through an environmental system. It typically combines physical mapping with imaging or tracer methods, such as introducing a visible dye and tracking its movement to reveal conduit geometry, flow direction, connectivity, and residence time. In environmental research and engineering, these observations help assess drainage networks, groundwater pathways, stormwater infrastructure, and pollutant transport. Conduit visualization supports flow modeling, leak and blockage detection, system design, and evidence-based management of natural and built environments.

Source: Lee, Y., et.al. Transplantation of Schwann Cells Inside PVDF-TrFE Conduits to Bridge Transected Rat Spinal Cord Stumps to Promote Axon Regeneration Across the Gap. J. Vis. Exp. (2017)This video demonstrates the use of a piezoelectric polymer conduit seeded with Schwann cells to promote axon regeneration in a transected rat spinal cord. The conduit provides structural guidance, while its bioelectric properties stimulate neurite outgrowth. Schwann cells within the conduit secrete...

This article describes a technique to insert a hollow conduit between the spinal cord stumps after complete transection and fill with Schwann cells (SCs) and injectable basement membrane matrix in order to bridge and promote axon regeneration across the gap.

The Use of the Ex Vivo Chandler Loop Apparatus to Assess the Biocompatibility of Modified Polymeric Blood Conduits

Blood exposure to polymeric blood conduits initiates the foreign body reaction that has been implicated in clinical complications. Here, the Chandler Loop Apparatus, an experimental tool mimicking blood perfusion through these conduits, is described. Appendage of recombinant CD47 results in decreased evidence of the foreign body reaction on these conduits.

We describe a novel intrathoracic esophagogastric anastomotic technique designed to create a large diameter anastomosis while simultaneously maintaining conduit blood supply to minimize the incidence of anastomotic leaks and strictures. Construction and orientation of the stomach conduit designed to optimize upper gastrointestinal tract function is also described.
