Rose Bengal Stain

Rose Bengal stain is a biological dye used to color organisms and organic remains in environmental samples, making them easier to detect and identify under a microscope. The stain binds to cellular proteins and other organic structures, producing a pink to red coloration that contrasts with mineral particles and sediment; in preserved samples, it commonly highlights benthic fauna and other biological material. Environmental scientists use Rose Bengal staining to assess meiofaunal and benthic communities, estimate organism abundance, and improve sample sorting and identification. These measurements support studies of biodiversity, sediment ecology, habitat quality, and environmental change.

Sutures are usually needed to repair tissue during surgical procedures. However, their application can be problematic as they are invasive and may damage tissue. The fabrication and application methods of a novel tissue adhesive are here reported. This adhesive film is laser-activated and does not require the use of sutures.

The growing incidence of drug-resistant Candida albicans is a serious health issue worldwide. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) may offer a strategy to fight against drug-resistant fungal infections. The present protocol describes Rose bengal-mediated aPDT efficacy on a multidrug-resistant C. albicans strain in vitro.

The significance of petite colonies in Candida spp. drug resistance has not been fully explored. Antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) offers a promising strategy against drug-resistant fungal infections. This study demonstrates that rose bengal-mediated aPDT effectively deactivates Candida glabrata and induces petite colonies, presenting a unique procedure.
