Brain Tumor Mouse Model

Brain tumor mouse models are experimental systems that reproduce key features of brain cancer in living animals, enabling researchers to study tumor growth and the surrounding immune environment. Researchers establish tumors through approaches such as implanting tumor cells or using genetically engineered mice, while factors including tumor location, blood-brain barrier function, and host immune status shape disease progression. These models help investigators examine immune-cell infiltration, inflammatory signaling, tumor–microenvironment interactions, and responses to immunotherapies or infection-related interventions. By linking molecular mechanisms to measurable outcomes such as survival and tumor burden, brain tumor mouse models support preclinical evaluation of treatments and clarify how immunity influences cancer in the central nervous system.

Source: Mess, G., et al. Sonodynamic Therapy for the Treatment of Glioblastoma Multiforme in a Mouse Model Using a Portable Benchtop Focused Ultrasound System. J. Vis. Exp. (2023)This video demonstrates a protocol for performing sonodynamic therapy on a brain tumor in a mouse model using magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS). A sonosensitizer precursor is administered prior to treatment, which accumulates in tumor cells and is activated by focused ultrasound to produce reactive...
