Fluorescent Fungus

Fluorescent fungus refers to fungal cells that emit visible light through natural pigments or introduced fluorescent reporter proteins, making fungal growth and behavior easier to observe. Fluorescence arises when molecules such as green fluorescent protein absorb light at one wavelength and release it at a longer wavelength; researchers can link reporter expression to fungal viability, gene activity, or cellular location. In immunology and infection research, fluorescent fungi help track pathogen dissemination, host-cell interactions, tissue invasion, and immune clearance using microscopy or flow cytometry. These tools support quantitative studies of fungal pathogenesis and the evaluation of antifungal treatments in complex biological systems.

2023

Fluorescence microscopy is a very powerful analytical tool that combines the magnifying properties of light microscopy with visualization of fluorescence. Fluorescence is a phenomenon that involves absorbance and emission of a small range of light wavelengths by a fluorescent molecule known as a fluorophore. Fluorescence microscopy is accomplished in conjunction with the basic light microscope by the addition of a powerful light source, specialized filters, and a means of fluorescently...
