Pulmonary Disease Model

A pulmonary disease model is an experimental system that reproduces key features of lung structure, function, or disease to investigate how respiratory disorders develop and respond to treatment. These models may use cultured airway or alveolar cells, organoids, animal systems, or engineered tissues to examine interactions among lung cells, immune mediators, and infectious agents under controlled conditions. In immunology and infection research, pulmonary disease models help clarify host-pathogen interactions, inflammation, tissue injury, and protective immune responses. They also support evaluation of vaccines and therapeutics while providing alternatives or complements to studies in patients and whole organisms.

This study describes the successful generation of a new chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) animal model by repeatedly exposing mice to high concentrations of ozone.

Hemodynamic Characterization of Rodent Models of Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a disease of pulmonary arterioles that leads to their obliteration and the development of right ventricular failure. Rodent models of PAH are critical in understanding the pathophysiology of PAH. Here we demonstrate hemodynamic characterization, with right heart catheterization and echocardiography, in the mouse and rat.

Transplantation of Pulmonary Valve Using a Mouse Model of Heterotopic Heart Transplantation

In order to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neotissue formation and stenosis development in tissue engineered heart valves, a murine model of heterotopic heart valve transplantation was developed. A pulmonary heart valve was transplanted to recipient using the heterotopic heart transplantation technique.

Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

COPD is defined as a heterogeneous lung condition marked by persistent respiratory symptoms such as dyspnea, cough, and sputum production, caused by abnormalities in the airways that cause airflow obstruction. Smoking is a primary risk factor for COPD, with over 80% of patients having a history of it. Patients typically experience progressive dyspnea or labored breathing, frequent coughing, and recurrent pulmonary infections. Many eventually succumb to respiratory failure, characterized by...
