Malignant Maxillary Tumors

Malignant maxillary tumors are cancers that arise in or invade the maxilla, the upper jaw and surrounding tissues, making early recognition important for controlling local destruction and preserving speech, swallowing, vision, and facial structure. These neoplasms develop when abnormal cells proliferate without normal growth regulation, infiltrate adjacent bone and soft tissue, and may spread through lymphatic or blood vessels. Evaluation typically combines clinical examination, imaging, and tissue biopsy to establish tumor type, extent, and stage. Findings guide multidisciplinary treatment, which may include surgery, radiation therapy, systemic therapy, or combinations of these approaches, while ongoing research aims to improve detection, treatment precision, and functional outcomes.

Methods for the Study of the Zebrafish Maxillary Barbel

2009

The zebrafish maxillary barbel is an integumentary sense organ containing ectodermal, mesodermal and neural crest derivatives. Importantly, the adult barbel can regenerate after proximal amputation. This video introduces maxillary barbel development and demonstrates a surgical protocol to induce regeneration, followed by collection, embedding and downstream imaging of barbel specimens.

Here, we present a protocol for cell transplantation of zebrafish skeletal muscle and embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma (ERMS) into adult immune compromised rag2E450fs homozygous mutant zebrafish. This protocol allows for the efficient analysis of regeneration and malignant transformation of muscle cells.

The goal of this method paper is to demonstrate a robust and reproducible methodology for the enrichment, generation, and expansion of primary tumor cell lines from surgically resected pleural mesothelioma.

MAME Models for 4D Live-cell Imaging of Tumor: Microenvironment Interactions that Impact Malignant Progression

We have developed 3D coculture models for live-cell imaging in real-time of interactions among breast tumor cells and other cells in their microenvironment that impact progression to an invasive phenotype. These models can serve as preclinical screens for drugs to target paracrine-induced proteolytic, chemokine/cytokine and kinase pathways implicated in invasiveness.

Isolating Malignant and Non-Malignant B Cells from lck:eGFP Zebrafish

Transgenic lck:eGFP zebrafish express GFP highly in T lymphocytes, and have been used to study T cell development and acute lymphoblastic leukemia. This line can be used to study B cells, which express lck at lower levels. This protocol describes purification of malignant and non-malignant B cells from lck:eGFP zebrafish.
