Resistance Bands

Resistance bands are elastic exercise tools that provide adjustable resistance for strength, mobility, and rehabilitation training. When stretched, the band generates increasing restoring force, requiring muscles to produce tension throughout a movement and allowing resistance to be modified by band thickness, length, and stretch. In medicine, clinicians use resistance bands in physical therapy to rebuild strength after injury, improve joint stability, support balance, and progress functional movements with relatively low equipment demands. They can also help patients exercise at home or in settings where weights and machines are unavailable, making them useful for individualized rehabilitation and long-term physical activity programs.

When two or more atoms come together to form a molecule, their atomic orbitals combine and molecular orbitals of distinct energies result. In a solid, there are a large number of atoms, and therefore a large number of atomic orbitals that may be combined into molecular orbitals. These groups of molecular orbitals are so closely placed together to form continuous regions of energies, known as the bands. The energy difference between these bands is known as the band gap. The pedunculopontine nucleus (PPN) is located in the brainstem and its neurons are maximally activated during waking and rapid eye movement (REM) sleep brain states. This work describes the experimental approach to record in vitro gamma band subthreshold membrane oscillation in PPN neurons.

Recording Gamma Band Oscillations From Pedunculopontine Nucleus Neurons in a Brain Slice

The video demonstrates the method to record gamma-band oscillations in PPN neurons. Using a sagittal brain section with synaptic blockers in aCSF, it employs positive current pulses via a patch pipette to open calcium channels, inducing crucial subthreshold activity for wakefulness.

Energy Bands in Solids

Isolated atoms have discrete energy levels that are well described by the Bohr model. And, it quantifies the energy of an electron in a hydrogen atom as En. Higher quantum numbers 'n' yield less negative, closer electron energy levels. Band Formation: When atoms are brought close together, as in a solid, these discrete energy levels begin to split due to the overlap of electron orbitals from adjacent atoms. This split occurs because of the Pauli exclusion principle, which states that no two...
