Sensitization Phenotypes

Sensitization phenotypes are clinically defined patterns of immune reactivity to specific allergens or other triggers, helping characterize how patients differ in susceptibility to hypersensitivity-related disease. They are identified by combining evidence of sensitization, such as allergen-specific immunoglobulin E or a positive skin-prick test, with symptoms, exposure history, and sometimes inflammatory biomarkers. In medicine, these phenotypes support more precise diagnosis and patient stratification in conditions such as allergic rhinitis, asthma, and food allergy. They can also guide risk assessment, selection of targeted treatments, and research into why similar exposures produce different clinical outcomes.

Source: Tamara M. Powers, Department of Chemistry, Texas A&M University Today's modern world requires the use of a large amount of energy. While we harness energy from fossil fuels such as coal and oil, these sources are nonrenewable and thus the supply is limited. To maintain our global lifestyle, we must extract energy from renewable sources. The most promising renewable source, in terms of abundance, is the sun, which provides us with more than enough solar energy to fully fuel our...

We describe a protocol for the rapid and sensitive quantification of disease severity in mouse models of cerebellar ataxia. Measures include hind limb clasping, ledge test, gait and kyphosis. This protocol effectively discriminates between affected and non-affected individuals, and detects the progression of affected individuals over time.

Microfluidic flow chambers etched by photolithography and fabricated from PDMS are applied to probe functional outcomes associated with EC dysfunction and inflammation. In a representative experiment, the ability of differential shear stress to modulate monocytic cell adhesion to cytokine activated EC monolayers is demonstrated.
