Vascular Resection

Vascular resection is a surgical procedure that removes a diseased, injured, or tumor-involved segment of a blood vessel while aiming to preserve or restore circulation. Surgeons isolate the vessel, temporarily control blood flow with clamps, excise the affected section, and re-establish continuity through direct anastomosis or an interposition graft, depending on the defect and vessel anatomy. In medicine, vascular resection supports treatment of aneurysms, traumatic injury, occlusive disease, and cancers that involve major vessels. Careful planning and intraoperative assessment help limit ischemia, bleeding, thrombosis, and other complications while improving the feasibility of complex surgical treatment.

(2022)This video demonstrates the use of a minimally invasive resection system (MIRS) to excise tumor tissue from an anesthetized mouse implanted with a tumor. The procedure involves securing the mouse onto a stereotactic frame, reopening the previous surgical site to access the brain, and inserting a specialized cannula that utilizes suction and a...

Laparoscopic Anatomic S7+S8d Resection Preserving Inferior Right Hepatic Vein and S6 with Right Hepatic Vein Transection

2025

We present a laparoscopic technique for anatomic S7+S8d resection with right hepatic vein transection, preserving the inferior right hepatic vein and segment S6. Relying on meticulous anatomical landmarks without intraoperative ultrasound, this approach offers a precise and parenchyma-sparing option for dorsally located right-liver tumors, particularly in settings with limited advanced navigation resources.

Tools used for visualizing vascular regeneration require methods for contrasting the vascular trees. This film demonstrated a delicate injection technique used to achieve optimal contrasting of the vascular trees and illustrate the potential benefits resulting from a detailed analysis of the resulting specimen using µCT and histological serial sections.
