J Per K

J per K (J/K) is the SI unit for quantities that relate energy to temperature, most notably entropy and heat capacity. In thermodynamics, reversible heat transfer produces an entropy change according to dS = δQrev/T, while an object's heat capacity is defined by C = δQ/dT, so both quantities carry units of joules per kelvin. Physicists use J/K in calorimetry to measure how materials store thermal energy, in thermodynamic analyses to track disorder and energy dispersal, and in statistical mechanics to connect macroscopic entropy with microscopic states. These measurements help characterize phase changes, engines, and thermal systems.

Channels for the transportation of water molecules in enzymes influence active site solvation and catalysis. Herein we present a protocol for the engineering of these additional catalytic motifs based on in silico computer modeling and experiments. This will enhance our understanding of the influence of solvent dynamics on enzyme catalysis.

Cataract is the leading cause of blindness in the world. Solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is the main risk factor for cataract development. An animal model of far UVR-B induced cataract was developed. In this article we describe methods for investigation of cataract formation: exposure to UVR, quantitative RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry.
