Muscles for Facial Expressions

Die Muskeln, die für die Mimik zuständig sind, haben ihren Ursprung meist in den Faszien tieferer Muskeln oder Schädelknochen und setzen sich in die Haut ein.
Infolgedessen bewegt jede Kontraktion der Gesichtsmuskulatur die darüber liegende Haut und verändert die Mimik.
Zum Beispiel ist der Occipitofrontalis ein zweiteiliger Kopfmuskel. Er besteht aus zwei muskulären Anteilen – dem vorderen und dem okzipitalen Bauch –, die durch die epikranielle Aponeurose zusammengehalten werden.
Die gegensätzliche Wirkung dieser beiden Muskelteile besteht darin, die Kopfhaut nach vorne und hinten zu ziehen, um Ausdrücke wie das Anheben der Augenbrauen zu erzielen.
Andere Muskeln, die die Gesichtsknochen bedecken, steuern die Mimik, indem sie die Bewegung von Augen, Nase, Wangen und Mund unterstützen.
Zum Beispiel ist der Orbicularis oris ein kreisrunder Muskel, der von anderen Muskeln ausgeht, die am Ober- und Unterkiefer befestigt sind und um die Lippen herum ansetzen.
Er dient auch als Ansatz für den Buccinator, der ebenfalls aus dem Ober- und Unterkiefer stammt. 
Zusammen steuern diese Muskeln Mundbewegungen wie Schmollen und Kräuseln.

Die kraniofazialen Muskeln sind eine Ansammlung von etwa 20 dünnen Skelettmuskeln, die sich unter der Haut von Gesicht und Kopfhaut befinden. Diese Muskeln, die in erster Linie für die vielfältigen Gesichtsausdrücke des Menschen verantwortlich sind, stammen aus den Knochen oder Faserstrukturen des Schädels und erstrecken sich nach außen, um mit der Haut in Verbindung zu treten. Während die meisten Skelettmuskeln im Körper von dicken Faszien umhüllt sind, weisen die Gesichtsmuskeln im Allgemeinen eine empfindlichere Faszienhülle auf, wobei der Musculus buccinator eine bemerkenswerte Ausnahme darstellt.
Diese Gesichtsmuskeln befinden sich um die Gesichtsöffnungen (Mund, Augen, Nase und Ohren) oder erstrecken sich über den Schädel und den Hals und sind für die nonverbale Kommunikation von entscheidender Bedeutung. Aufgrund ihrer spezifischen Rolle bei der Wiedergabe von Emotionen und Absichten werden sie treffend als Muskeln des Gesichtsausdrucks oder mimetische Muskeln bezeichnet. Alle Gesichtsmuskeln empfangen Signale vom Gesichtsnerv und sorgen so für präzise und koordinierte Bewegungen, während die Gesichtsarterie für die notwendige Blutversorgung sorgt. Allerdings können die Innervations- und Vaskularisierungsmuster komplex sein und von Person zu Person leicht variieren.
Beispielsweise ist der Musculus occipitofrontalis, der eine Schlüsselrolle beim Anheben der Augenbrauen spielt, ein zweiteiliger Kopfhautmuskel, der aus Frontal- und Okzipitalbäuchen besteht. Diese Teile sind durch die epikranielle Aponeurose, eine zähe Bindegewebsschicht, verbunden. Ein weiterer wichtiger Muskel ist der Orbicularis oris, ein kreisförmiger Muskel, der den Mund umgibt. Er entsteht aus benachbarten Muskeln des Ober- und Unterkiefers und setzt um die Lippen herum an. Er ist auch der Ansatzpunkt für den Buccinator-Muskel, der aus dem Ober- und Unterkiefer entspringt und Mundbewegungen wie Schmollen und die Lippen spitzen steuert.

Facial muscles shape human expression by moving the skin of the face and scalp. These craniofacial muscles are thin skeletal muscles that lie just beneath the skin. They help create the nonverbal signals people use to show emotion and intention.

There are about 20 of these muscles. Most begin on bones or fibrous parts of the skull and then extend outward to attach to the skin. They are called muscles of facial expression, or mimetic muscles, because they reflect feelings through movement.

Facial muscles usually have a delicate fascial covering. Fascia is a layer of connective tissue that surrounds muscles. The buccinator is a notable exception, and it has a different, more prominent covering.

These muscles sit around the openings of the face, including the mouth, eyes, nose, and ears. Some also span across the skull and neck. Their actions are coordinated by the facial nerve, and the facial artery supplies blood, although these patterns can vary slightly from person to person.

Several facial muscles show how specific their jobs are. The occipitofrontalis is a two-part scalp muscle with frontal and occipital bellies joined by the epicranial aponeurosis, a tough connective layer. It helps lift the eyebrows. The orbicularis oris circles the mouth and attaches around the lips, while the buccinator helps with mouth movements such as pouting and puckering.

Other muscles create familiar expressions. The zygomaticus major pulls the corners of the mouth upward in a smile. The corrugator supercilii draws the eyebrows together in a frown. Together with muscles that move the eyes, nose, and cheeks, these muscles produce a wide range of expressions, from joy to sorrow.
